When a fail is still a win, aka a Nanowrimo update

Well, tomorrow is the last day of November, and since I’m pretty sure I’m not going to write twenty thousand words between now and then (and if you think I’m procrastinating by writing this blog post instead of adding to that word count, you may know me well!), I’m going to assume that I will not be “winning” at Nanowrimo this year.

But guess what? I’m not that disappointed.

November is never a good month for me for the simple reason that we spend a whole week camping at the beach every year over Thanksgiving, which means I’m basically down to having only three-quarters of the month to really write. Add to that a 2-part root canal and lots of other responsibilities, and well, it is what it is, and I knew this (at least most of it) going into Nano.

But, for me it was still a win. I wrote for eighteen days straight, and while I didn’t always hit my daily word count goal, I made significant progress on my new project, and I loved getting back into drafting mode, and feeling that rush of blowing through exciting scenes. (I also got lots of practice of slogging through sections where I hadn’t planned ahead at all; I’m at one of those places right now, hence the bit of procrastination).

In addition, I connected more with some lovely Bookstagram/Writer friends was a joy (and if you’re a bookish person who’s not following my booksta- account, perhaps you might like to?)

Oh! And because ideas seem to breed ideas for me (must be the combination of ENFP + enneagram 7?), I also started sketching down some plans to reorganize this blog and start using it a bit more again. I forced myself to put it off until December, and I made it this far… Hopefully forcing myself to wait and ponder a bit will help me to be a little more likely to follow through.

It’s conference day for my kids, which means our homeschooling is done for the week, and we just have to run to school for a couple of hours, so we’re enjoying a cozy rainy morning in, and I’m doing my best to be productive. Hoping this afternoon (and tomorrow when they are at school) brings a bit more writing time… and maybe a Hallmark Christmas movie. Happy Thursday, and as always, thanks for reading!
