A classic overdue update post

update post collage 10.10.19.jpg

(I just wrote a whole blog post and Squarespace ate it. I’m trying to recreate it now. Grr. Is this a sign that my attempts at updating the blog are futile?)

So, here we are in September, hm scratch that, it’s now October (I started this post a couple of weeks ago). How in the world did we get here? I’ve been working on updating this site to be my home base as I pursue publication and in doing so have resurrected my long-dormant domain GidgetGoesHome.com. That’s where you’ll now find all my old recipes, sewing/crafts, and other lifestyle-ish blog posts. If you can’t find something old you’re looking for, feel free to contact me and I can help locate it. I won’t be posting there much probably, but I did finally write up a summary/resource post for my sourdough methods over there- yay!

So where’ve I been? I’m pretty active on Bookstagram these days, dabbling back into Twitter (we’ll see how long that lasts; I tend to go in spurts there), and I also still write periodically for The Art of Simple, which is fun (I have a post coming up over there soon). But I’ve been doing most of my writing offline. In the spring I finished my latest manuscript, and applied to Pitch Wars, and then am getting ready to query it (for those not familiar, that means sending it out into the world in hopes of finding an agent to represent me/it and submit it to publishers). It’s an arduous process, but I’m excited to dive in.

I’ve also been reading a lot since my last update in January (I’m at eighty-something books for the year). I always keep GoodReads up-to-date, but here are some favorites from the year (since January) so far (up through September).

Born a Crime // Trevor Noah

Next Year in Havana // Chanel Cleeton

Because of Winn-Dixie // Kate DiCamillo (I read this, listened to it and watched the movie this year. Scully really liked the movie; he kept perking up and barking at the screen. ;) )

All the books in the Grisha-Verse, especially Six of Crows & Crooked Kingdom // Leigh Bardugo

A Question of Holmes // Brittany Cavallaro

Stealing Home // Becky Wallace

To Best the Boys // Mary Weber

Olivia Twist // Lorie Langdon

Through Gates of Splendor // Elisabeth Elliot

Aurora Rising // Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

The Bookish Life of Nina Hill // Abbi Waxman

Somewhere Only We Know // Maurene Goo

Becoming // Michelle Obama

Hope and Other Punch Lines // Julie Buxbaum

Stay Sweet // Siobhan Vivian

A Curse So Dark and Lonely // Brigid Kemmerer

Evvie Drake Starts Over // Linda Holmes

How to Help Your Anxious Teen // Jessica Thompson

Music on frequent rotation lately: The Head and The Heart, Birdtalker, Lord Huron, Ed Sheeran, Hamilton, Drew Holcomb.

Currently watching: Veronica Mars (rewatching with my husband who’s never seen it), Jane the Virgin, bits of Gilmore Girls here and there

Currently listening to with the kids: The Penderwicks on Gardam Street

Quote I keep thinking about: “It’s hard to hate close up.” ~Michelle Obama

If you’re reading, thanks, and I hope you’re doing well! I look forward to when I someday (hopefully) have more exciting writing updates for you! xo
